Colors of Character:

A unique aspect of our children's program is the large amount of time spent in class with
students developing character, and many other important mental skills.  This program consists
of a series of exercises designed to help parents and instructors strengthen their child’s
character traits.  The instructors teach these skills in a safe and fun environment.  Villari’s Colors
of Character program develop mental skills with the concepts of the three school rules -
Self
Control, Respect, and Self Discipline.  Studies have proven that these mental skills truly create
empowering changes in all areas of life.  Villari's created a “One-of-a-Kind” program geared
specifically towards helping children develop strong character and mental skills.  There is more
to karate than learning to kick and punch.  As the student progresses through the ranks, the
assignments become more involved.  Each exercise is reviewed in class upon completion of the
colored bar exercise, children are awarded a colored bar to be affixed to their Color of Character
commitment patch.  These colored bars correspond with the colored belt ranks, and altogether
there are seven colored bars to achieve.

Curriculum:

Our proven curriculum will help your child develop balance, coordination, strength, self-control,
respect, and self-discipline, all while your child is having fun in a safe, positive environment.

What could be better?

We group children into classes based on their age and ability level. This makes it easy for
students to start at any age from 4 to 15 and also lets our teachers provide age appropriate
instruction.

"Villari's has had a tremendous positive impact on my son. I highly recommend them" - Karen
Humphries

Our instructors have not only mastered karate, but are trained to teach children. Being a black
belt does not automatically make someone an excellent instructor.

As students progress through the curriculum, they will earn colored belts and awards. Unlike
many schools, our program is designed such that children set achievable goals and make
regular progress.

Be There: Your child should feel confident that they are your top priority and that there are times
that you give your undivided attention. Whether our classes are big or small, we always want our
students to know that we are there for them and that their progress is always our primary
objective.

Avoid Empty Praise: It’s tempting to tell your child that they're a wonderful reader, a great soccer
player or even a master Martial Artist, but even young children can tell when they truly excel at
something and when they don’t. Only honest praise will develop self-confidence!

Let Your Child Shine: Though it is important to be honest about your child’s limitations, you
should also encourage activities that show off her talents. In class, we recognize a student’s
strong and weak points. If a new student has good flexibility but has weak power, we would be
more inclined to develop those flexibility skills and allow time for power to develop before it
becomes our focus.

Analyze Failure:  It’s not failure itself that’s devastating to a child but how he interprets it. If a
student has difficulty with a Martial Arts technique that requires a flexibility skill, we want the
student to understand that the technique may simply require more practice.

Give An “A” For Effort: When a student performs well, we want the student to know that success
is a direct result of hard work, not simply natural talent. This outlook is critical when the student
does not succeed. The student will know that the focus and hard work can turn failure into
success. The student will not think he will never be able to accomplish the objective because of
natural limitations.

Encourage Caring: The most resilient children, those who thrive in spite of genuine hardship,
are often both responsible and nurturing. As Martial Arts instructors, we believe that this is an
important characteristic to becoming teachers and dedicating our lives to teaching others. As
students progress at our school, they will become involved with helping other students achieve
goals they themselves have already achieved.
Classes keep children active and  they learn physical activity can be
FUN!
Here is how we do it -
Drills that build Skills - or games:

While learning martial arts there are many drills to be a skill set - all sports have them.  The
children can have fun while working out and learning a skill we call them games but they
normally have a theme that builds a skill set.  The instructors know many games and work with
the children to encourage and build their skills, and keep them moving and exercising.
